The Nuffield Steering Group issued a general response to the National Languages Strategy shortly after its publication in December 2002.
On the appointment of David Mallen as acting National Director for Languages, the Group decided to offer a more detailed commentary, with the aim of contributing to the success of the Strategy and further its goal of bringing about real change in national attitudes towards languages.
