In the light of the forthcoming announcement of the national language strategy, the Steering Group of the Nuffield Languages Programme decided in their meeting of 2 October to suspend the grant programme. No new applications will be accepted after 31 October.

As soon as details of the strategy are known, we will consider what the next year should hold for the Programme and how the available resources might best be deployed to further the development of the UKÂ's capability in languages.

A further announcement will be made after the publication of the national strategy.
